Quote of the week...

Image
"Foggy Birch" (Photo credit: J.B. Sommerset) This time, I thought I would get all profound and philosophical with my quote of the week. For the most part I am a minimalist, and don't like a lot of extraneous detail when it comes to my writing and my art. However, occasionally I go out on a limb and post something complicated and "floral". This one is from one of my many works in progress. Hope you all like it. "Let it be said that we are all children; age is an assumption, it is relative to those who have aged. There are always older, wiser and more adult things in this world, and when we are among them, we are without the insights of maturation. In those times, we are children, no matter how old we are." J.B. Sommerset Cheers!

"Mud and Snow" (Photo Credit: J.B. Sommerset ) Sometimes it pays to have a "down to Earth quote" one that's really note sophisticated or complex, one that is simple, but makes since in ways that the common man can understand. I have a whole section in my notebooks dedicated to this kind of quote. I call it "the simple man section". Given that this is another election year, I thought this one fit the bill, enjoy.  "If you are going to be lazy and cut corners, you probably shouldn't do it while wiping your ass." J.B. Sommerset Cheers!

"The Dying Light" (Photo Credit J.B. Sommerset 2023) Sometimes it helps to remember that our habits and behaviors become us. It's hard to see it happening but we can become the things we hate in such a way. "Do not practice a thing that doesn't bring joy to your heart, for you might just become good at it..." J.B. Sommerset Cheers!

Space, with a spider...

There are very few Adam Sandler movies I actually like. For the most part it's the same movie over and over again. It's okay sometimes. But I have to be in the mood to waste a couple of hours watching one of his movies. I guess you might say I have a love hate relationship with him and his work. Most of it, is very "Meh". There's only one Adam Sandler movie I will watch over and over again- outside of " Eight Crazy Nights ", which my family insists is a "Christmas movie". That movie would be, you probably guessed this one, " Happy Gilmore ". And it's really not even a good movie, it's just super nostalgic. There are some other movies he's in that are good, but they don't have a replay value- case in point " Reign Over Me ", " Punch Drunk Love ", and " Uncut Gems " among others. They're good movies, but they just aren't worth watching multiple times, especially Uncut Gems.  So when

"Mist in the Valley" (Photo Credit: JB Sommerset 2024) This one is one from "the way back", it's one I'd like to think was given to me by mother nature herself, but I think it came to me because at the time I lived in Idaho- and that's a weird place to be.  "When looking at our compassion, we should use some common sense- sometimes a person should come to realize, that a rabid raccoon stuck in a trap because of it's own stupidity should be put down rather than set free. J.B. Sommerset Cheers!

Rising Clouds on the Mountain- Photo credit to J.B. Sommerset (2023) Here's another great quote from my former life. One that has stuck with me for all these years. This one has a spiritual message in it's heart, a lesson I learned from long ago, in the "way back" of my child hood. I might have mentioned here in the past, sometimes I forget to check these things off as I input them. So I hope this one is fresh to all those readers out there and that it isn't a repeat, I am feeling this one today, but not for me, for a close friend.  "It seems to me, largely, that religion is a support group for those who lack faith. And like other support groups it's corruptible in ways a person doesn't see without the wisdom of spirituality." J.B. Sommerset Cheers!

Bi-weekly audio book!

Image
I recently watched " The Fall of the House of Usher " on Netflix, loved it BTWs and wrote a review of it which can be found here . It got me thinking... I might have missed some of other stories created by the same author. That's right, you know who I mean, Edgar Allan Poe . I will still contend that I am not a E.A.P. super fan. Hell I have barely read a couple of his stories, but the mini-series was so good that I decided to give it another go. So, this week I bring some of his short stories to the table for the listening. I hope you enjoy this collection.  Cheers!

Another piece of creepy art...

Image
So I did another art.  This one stares into your soul, and not in a good way. It turned out better than I thought but also a lot worse than I thought. Recently I have been demonizing politicians, and a while ago, I posted several of the ones I have already done. Then I tried coloring them with " Krita ," one of my favorite art programs. I liked the results, and it was easier than I thought it would be. If you are in the market for a free art program (available on Mac OS, Win, and Linux), I highly recommend downloading and getting to know it... biblically- if you know what I mean.   Check it out... Cheers, and keep on creating.

Some new art...

Image
This one will be quick as I am going out for the day. A couple of weeks ago, I posted the ink version of this, but I thought it needed something more. I have been experimenting with some new art styles for some of my older works. This is a picture of a place in Montana called "Mouton's Barn." I decided to freehand it and see if I could replicate it. It will not be posted in the gallery as I am trying to figure out something better than what I have for the gallery; hopefully, "coming soon" will be posted there in the next few weeks so I can transfer my art to a more usable forum. Also, don't forget to check out my art on my " Society 6 " page- I have added some new ones. Cheers, and keep on creating!

A new video on the channel...

The Unsettling thing...

Image
This one is something that shows up in my work from time to time, at least since I was fourteen or so. From time to time I draw it out and see if anything has changed in the way it looks in my head. There is a story behind it and someday soon I hope to write it down. This one will  not be in the gallery, it is going to be used somewhere else... Here's the video... Here's the picture... Cheers, and keep on creating!

My thoughts...

Image
I have hesitated to print anything on the site about the situation with Russia and Ukraine. I usually abstain from discussions about politics, religion, and world views. There are times, however, when silence is a more dangerous perspective than noise. This is one of those times. Although it's happening a world away, this time is different. The world has had its madmen, but never before have those madmen had such dangerous weapons.  My heart not only goes out to the people of Ukraine, but it also goes out to those people in Russia, those who speak out even if it means being beat on the spot, arrested, and spending 15 years in a gulag. I salute you, even though I have no experience to understand what that actually means. I have no frame of reference to understand your emotions, your struggles, and your pain. But despite that, I can see the bravery and courage, and that shines brighter than any light.   As for the people in Ukraine, never in my life have I seen such valor. Never in m

Another upload to youtube...

As promised, I will continue to upload videos of my art for all of you to enjoy. This one is of me brushing up on my knotwork for an upcoming project- I hope you all enjoy it! Cheers, and as always, keep on creating!

Videos of my art, what fun!

Image
I posted a couple videos here a week or two ago about my process and how I draw my art. I had such a good time doing so I decided to start posting some of them here 'on the reg'. All of them will be posted on my youtube channel as well.  Sometimes I take a break from my writing and other work and sketch a simple five-minute cartoon. I do this at restaurants or pubs for the most part, or during times where my writing or larger art slumps- they make me feel like I am completing something. I call these little sketches "quickies", but the truth is they are more like one-panel cartoons. Here is my latest quicky, it's called " Lantern Fish ". Cheers, and keep on creating!
